Summary:
The Blueair 603 air purifier comes with an Hepa type air filter. As an option a specially designed Smokestop filter is available. The first thing I have noticed is that at slow speed this large air purifier (with a coverage area up to 640 square feet!) is not noisy at all. This is a great advantage over similar products from other brands. The CADR score of this air purifier is excellent (i.e. Dust= 415, Smoke= 415, Pollen 400 )and it is certified by AHAM. It is the perfect choice for larger rooms.
This is not the typical air purifier you will want in a room or a small apartment though; it is quite tall and heavy. In a few words it is not something that will easily blend with the décor. For dust particles and pollen removal it is an excellent product but I would not recommend it for VOC or bacteria control, there are other solutions out there more effective on those specific problems.
This unit offers a replacement filters indicator; this is a nice and very useful feature to have in any air purifier.
Strengths:
The Blueair 603 offers a huge coverage area up to 640 square feet. The unit is solid like a rock with a galvanized steel case and was built to last. 5 Years warranty if you replace the filters at least twice a year.
Weaknesses:
Replacement filters are expensive and in order to keep the warranty you need to change them every six months. The 603 is not very effective against odor control and VOC or bacteria. The 601 does not have a remote controller. At this price level you should expect all those features in an air purifier. The airflow control has only 3 speeds; I wish blueair would have opted to have the 5 speed settings on this model.
