Summary:
The Healthmate by Austin air has been around for long time. Before starting with my findings I have to say that this unit is very tough, I accidentally dropped it from my desk and afterwards it was working as nothing has happened. Now, lets get back to business: The healthmate structure is divided in two sections: the bottom part is where the air gets sucked in by the fan, while the top section is dedicated to the exhaust function. The filters are present in the hearth of the device and have an odd cylindrical shape. In this air purifier not much electronic is available, only the basic is offered: A three speed switch is all you have. Depending on your needs this is not always a bad thing.
As many old generation air cleaners the Healthmate is a little bit noisy; this is not the type of machine you would want to run in your bedroom while you are sleeping. As far as efficiency though, it does a good job. I suggest this unit to be used in basements or in the kitchen because it is fantastic against odors.
A plus of this unit is the length of the life of the filters. Factory states 5 years under normal use. To tell you the truth this might not be fantasy, they provided actual data for this statement but I personally would not want to keep pollutants in my house for such a long time, even within a filter!
As this said, I give this unit two thumbs up because even if it is not fancy looking it is a good solid product and an efficient particle remover.
Strengths:
The hepa filter lasts for a long time, the manufacturer states 5 years under normal residential condition.
It is very solid since it is built in steal and not plastic.
It is offered in 3 color options.
Weaknesses:
This unit is very basic: There is no filter replacement indicator nor a remote controller nor any sort of pollution sensor.
Not one of the quietest air purifiers out there.
It is heavy and a little bit bulky. |
