Summary:
The motor and structure is identical from the regular Healthmate unit. The only difference is the purification filter that is made of a composition between carbon zeolite and potassium iodide. This extra strength filter media works very well on V.O.C. and certain chemicals. So if you are chemical sensitive the Healthmate plus is a good product. We tested this unit for cigar odor removal in a small cigar lounge room (250 sq.ft) in a Country club here in Florida. Cigar odor was drastically reduced.
As far as noise, this unit is not quiet, so not good for the bedroom but perfect for living rooms and dens. I also tested Healthmate plus for kitchen odors after having cooked a fish based dinner for 6 people. I let the unit run all night in the kitchen and when I woke up in the morning I was impressed of the lack of cooking smells.
It is a solid products and built to last, I wish in the future Austin air will come up with a more updated design.
Strengths:
The hepa filter lasts for a long time, the manufacturer states 5 years under normal residential condition.
It is very solid since it is built in steal and not plastic.
It is offered in 3 color options.
It really works good against foul odors
Weaknesses:
This unit is basic: There is no filter replacement indicator nor a remote controller nor any sort of pollution sensor.
Not one of the quietest air purifiers out there.
It is heavy and a little bit bulky.
Filter replacement process is complicated and a screwdriver is required.
